>>> The project Urban Reinventors was born in 2005 as an online network involving practitioners of urban sciences, architects, reporters, writers and directors as well as members of civic associations and active elements inhabiting the city, so as to analyse social, urbanistic and architectonic experiments of reinvention of the contemporary city.  

>>> The online diffusion of the content has an exclusively scientific character and uses the multiple resources of the new media in order to reach the widest possible audience, trying to establish a cross-sectional dialogue between overground (local institutions, academic world, etc) and underground (informal groups, private associations, non-profit projects).  The modern city’s condition will be illustrated by means of very different contents ranging from theory to documentary video, from reportage to critical reflections, from novels to a gallery of images.  

>>> Urban Reinventors describes the global cities- their energy, their conflicts and those events capable of inscribing their mark onto the city’s history, moulding its meaning – focusing its attention on the so-called experiments of reinvention that have proved to recover an important role in the transformation of the urban landscape. With ‘experiments of urban reinvention’ we do not necessarily refer to new architectures, as much as we mean attempts (brought forward by active elements inhabiting the city or by aware local administration capable of taking on this challenge) to redefine the very process of urban and architectonical planning, being actualized through social participation, self-construction, and the so called sensemaking in the process of planning of the urban scenario.

>>> Urban Reinventors is action.  The urban reinventors will be active protagonists in the transformation of the city’s scene.  The network’s goal is the constitution of a serious and authoritative laboratory focusing its attention on the city, capable of bringing forth proposals and interventions, offering a valuable contribution on urban planning policies.

>>> The initiatives brought forward by UR will range from supporting innovative legislative proposals to the organization of events attempting to raise an attention towards issues relating to urban themes in both academia, the institutions and the political sphere.

>>>  The debate will cluster around the claim for a supremacy of the street as a space allowing for contact between the different urban realities inhabiting the city and of the meaning of public space as a place and occasion for a democratic interaction between these.
